细胞冻存需要以1℃/分钟的降温速度将细胞悬液从室温降温至-80℃，然后转移到气相液氮中长期保存。常用的方法是将冻存管放入异丙醇降温盒，再将降温盒放入-80℃冰箱，利用异丙醇比热容大的特点，使被冻存的细胞实现缓慢降温。但是异丙醇有毒，且易挥发，长期使用不但造成环境污染，也对实验人员健康不利。Corning CoolCell新***代细胞降温盒，不需要借助异丙醇就可以实现缓慢降温；降温效果已经通过多种细胞类型冻存测试，包括原代细胞、干细胞、PBMC细胞系、昆虫细胞和酵母等。
